That singular act of courage and commitment gave rise to the Economic Community of West African States — ECOWAS. From that moment until today, our journey has been marked by resilience, unity and determination. Today, we are gathered here to celebrate five decades of regional solidarity, during which we have stood shoulder to shoulder in times of both hope and hardship, and built the most integrated Regional Economic Community on the African continent. Today, ECOWAS represents more than just an institution — it is a symbol of the enduring aspirations of over 400 million citizens.
