Retrospective on good practices in the fight against covid by volunteers

ECOWAS member countries have been affected to varying degrees by the COVID-19 pandemic. The contexts here also vary. Some countries have faced security crisis while others are in a relative situation of peace. The levels of healthcare services also vary significantly. However, in general, the types of volunteers who have intervened and are intervening in the fight against epidemics are: • Field (Onsite) volunteers: These are occasional, short-term, medium-term and long-term volunteers. They may or may not be specialists. • Online volunteers: Can be an effective solution to support the fight against epidemics because they can work remotely thanks to new information and communication technologies. The areas of intervention include: Awareness-raising, administration of care, testing and vaccination, etc.), logistics (ambulance service, transport of equipment, vaccines, medical equipment, etc.), water and sanitation (disinfection of sites and homes), mobilization of resources, production of masks and preparation of disinfection solutions, support for people in quarantine, etc.
